New type Prestwich proptube with external thrust collar adjustment

 

It is not a good idea to transmit the thrust from the propellor through to the engine or gearbox, it will cause mis-alignment with the coupling and generate vibration with resulting loss of power.
The minimum requirement is a PTFE type thrust washer between the end of the tube and the prop.
A better method is the use of a ballraced propshaft where the thrust is taken by means of a collar pushing on the back of the bearing.
